Atelier Karia Developers Working on Eating-Based Body-Change System

Gust is currently working to implement a body-change system in Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom and the Guidepost of Memories. The feature would let protagonist Karia’s appearance change based on her eating habits.

Eating is already a central mechanic in Atelier Karia. Karia can consume items created through alchemy, with different foods affecting her appearance and abilities. The proposed body-change mechanic would expand this system by allowing eating and snacking to alter her physique.

The idea previously appeared in a pre-release player survey held from July 24 through August 23. One question asked players for their opinion on Karia’s body changing as a result of eating and snacking.

An interim survey report released on August 14 found that around 80% of respondents wanted the feature included. According to the new developer interview, interest was particularly high among overseas players. Nearly 90% of English-language respondents reportedly said they strongly wanted the mechanic, with North American responses described as especially enthusiastic.

Director Fukui confirmed that the development team is working quickly to implement the body-change system. Despite the additional work, he said it is not expected to significantly affect the game’s development schedule.

A new trailer was also released, revealing Rutger and Lenja returning as playable party members from the first game. They’re now experienced members of the Aladiss Pioneering Team.
