Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement Gets New Gameplay Trailer at TGS 2026

Despite Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement being delayed to 2027, publisher 505 Games and developer ArtPlay aren’t keeping fans in the dark. The team shared a new gameplay trailer during the Xbox Showcase at Tokyo Game Show 2026, offering another look at what it has been working on.

According to 505 Games, this is the most extensive look at the upcoming gothic action RPG yet. The footage introduces new characters, environments, and enemies, alongside glimpses of previously unseen gameplay mechanics. Exploration and combat remain central to the adventure, building on the foundations of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Check out the new gameplay trailer below.

Set before the events of Ritual of the Night, The Scarlet Engagement takes players to 16th-century England, where a mysterious floating castle has brought terror to the land. A sinister figure named Elias controls the castle and its demonic forces, leaving two new heroes, Leonard and Alex, to put an end to his reign.

The adventure combines 2.5D exploration, strategic battles, and crafting across a cursed landscape. With Koji Igarashi helping shape the Bloodstained universe, the prequel gives ArtPlay an opportunity to explore its darker origins through a different pair of protagonists.

As a fan of the Castlevania series, I had grown frustrated with how Konami had seemingly given up on it at the time. After leaving Konami, IGA went on to co-found ArtPlay and work on the original Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. I played it, loved it, and couldn’t wait for more. What’s interesting now is that we’re getting this game in 2027, while a new Castlevania game is set to arrive later this year. Going from wondering whether we’d ever get another game like these to having both to look forward to is a pretty good problem to have.

In our Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night PC review, I praised its massive map, wide selection of gear and abilities, and fantastic soundtrack. Despite some technical issues and frustrations with the save system, it delivered the Castlevania-style experience I had been craving and became one of my favorite Metroidvanias.

Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement is scheduled to release in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. An exact release date has not been announced.
